Central Amsterdam sure has a lot of spots where people can get together, local and tourists alike. One of which is the major square in Netherlands called the Rembrandtplein or also known as the Rembrandt Square.
The Rembrandtplein was named to honor a famous Dutch painter – Rembrandt van Rijn. Few years ago, it was a market where people can buy or sell butter. But the development in Amsterdam, particularly in Netherlands, changed the Rembrandtplein into a centre of vibrant nightlife in the region. Many establishments opened since then including hotels, discotheques, bars, and cafes. Not only that it is a popular nightlife destination to the locals of Amsterdam but also a famous choice among tourists at the same time.
And since this is a square of the painter Rembrandt, there is a huge statue of him standing at the heart of the square. The other statues that seem to guard him at front were inspired by the characters from one of his notable paintings called The Night Watch. There are actually 22 smaller statues made from bronze and you can see all of it at the Night Watch painting.
The Rembrandtplein is not just visited during the night. People also go here during the day especially at the café terraces. This is where they can simply relax, have a coffee, and let the time pass by. Aside from that, one may also shop at any of the souvenir shops located around the square or visit the diamond factories instead.
