There are Pharmacies (Or Apotheek as they are called in Dutch) all across the city of Amsterdam. They offer anything from over the counter medicine and prescription medicine. To advice on what’s best to treat particular symptoms.
The Pharmacy in Amsterdam that probably gets walked past the most without many people noticing, would be that of the one on Damstraat.
If you leave Dam Square and head up Damstraat, then the Pharmacy is the second building on the right. I’d previously walked past it hundreds of times and never even noticed it was there. Until i needed it of course. It’s opposite the Pizza Slices shop and next door to the €5 Gift shop.
Inside you’ll find helpful and friendly staff wanting to help you with your medical inquiry, if they can’t provide the medicines you need. They are more than happy to put you in touch with a Dr.
If you need a Pharmacy and it’s out of hours. You can always call the main Pharmacy number and they’ll inform you of which Pharmacy is open and where. There’s at least one open even during the night for emergencies. The number to call is :020-6948709 .
