Looking for a cheese shop while in Amsterdam? Cheese is quite popular in Amsterdam and Europe on a whole. So it’s not surprising that some of the cheese shops in Amsterdam are packed to the brim.
The cheese shop i often visit when on holiday in Amsterdam is the one on Damstraat. Walk up Damstraat from Dam Square and it’ll take about 5 minutes until you come across the cheese shop. It’ll be on your left hand side and the main give away that your outside a cheese shop will be the giant cheese bell in the window, and all the cheeses on display inside the shop.
The cheese shop on Damstraat isn’t large by any means, But expect to find it packed with all varieties of cheeses, from common English cheese, to funky looking specialist cheeses. (What a specialist cheese is, is beyond me.)

My favourite buy from this particular cheese shop is the Nettle cheese. Don’t panic, it doesn’t sting you. But it is a nice cheese to enjoy on toast and crackers.
Spend some time browsing the cheeses and if you ask nice enough, they even let you try before you buy. Just ask, the worst they can say is no, And if they say yes. You get to snack on a free bit of cheese.
