The Post Office in Amsterdam isn’t hard to spot. If you know what your looking for of course. It’s not what i would typically assume to be a Post Office building, with its historic architecture and grand designs. It’s no surprise i missed it on my first journey there.
Swarovski crystal is crystal like no other. It’s not only amazing in design, but also in price. With items on sale for upto €700. Make sure you’ve got your credit card handy before stepping inside. You’ll find the Swarovski shop inside the Magna Plaza shopping centre which is 2 minutes from Dam Square.
If your looking for something sweet and your near Dam Square. Check out Rene’s Croissants on Damstraat. Even if your not going to buy anything. It’s still nice to think of all the sugary goodness inside, they look pretty too. Rene’s is directly opposite Pizza Slices.
Pizza slices is the place to grab.. well a slice of pizza from. If you walk up Damstraat from Dam Square. Then on your left you should see Pizza Slices. On display are all manner of pizzas and for just a few Euros. One of those slices could be yours! It takes a few minutes to heat the slices up, but thats a great time to decide where you intend to eat it!
The Pharmacy in Amsterdam could very well save you a trip to the hospital. Everything from painkillers and the morning after pill. To asthma inhalers and medical advice on just about anything else. Walk up Damstraat from Dam Square and it’s the second building on the right.
Another place to grab a slice of pizza from is New York City Pizza. Plenty of people eat here so the food can’t be too bad. Find these scattered across the city in busy streets. Or if your stuck for one. Check out Central Station. Theres one inside there. Sometimes they have offers where you get the second slice for just 99 cents.
If your looking to top up on make up or face creams whilst in Amsterdam. Then etos is the place to go. They’ve got all kinds of creams and health pills that you’d expect to see in somewhere like Boots here in the UK. Find one on Kalverstraat just off of Dam Square.
Amsterdam Today
Amsterdam today gives you the chance to take back home just about anything related to Amsterdam. Shirts,jackets hats and more can be found in this big busy shop on the Damrak.
Fast food is FEBO’s speciality. You’ll find these anywhere from the beginning of Damrak, all the way through the busy streets towards the outer areas of town. Serving ready made burgers and kaassouffle from a different type of vending machine to what you’d usually see. Simply put the money in and get the food out. They also serve fries, with or without mayo.
McDonalds
Missing home and afraid of the local food? Fear not for McDonalds are another establishment scattered throughout tourist areas in Amsterdam. Perfect for anyone whose scared of trying something new. Or just wants something they know. Find a McDonalds behind Damrak in the pedestrian shopping area. There’s also one by Dam Square.
Kentucky Fried Chicken
If your wanting a bucket of the Colonels chicken. Then check out the Amsterdam KFC on Damrak . It’ll taste as crappy as everywhere else in the world, but give you that sense of eating back at home. There are much better places to grab a bite to eat from for the same kind of money.
The Diamond Centre has some beautiful displays. Its located just at the edge of Dam Square and easily accessible from anywhere else in the city. Check out what’s on sale and what’s on display as you eat your pizza or just window shop.
Sissyboy Homeland
Want to keep up with some European fashion? Sissyboy homeland can be found in the Magna Plaza on the corner of the Raadhuisstraat. Pick yourself up some sweaters for those cold days. Or some new cool tops for the warmer summers.
Like cheese? There’s a great cheese shop located up Damstraat on the right. It’s only a few minutes walk from Dam Square and the selection of cheeses is absolutely amazing! Pick up something special for your favourite crackers.
If you’ve got somewhere that allows you use of a kitchen or you just fancy topping up on snacks. Then the food supermarket is the cheapest and best place to go. A pack of 7 Twix costs just a couple of Euros here. Where as from the smaller shops located on Damrak and Damstraat and similar streets, a single Twix will cost you at least a Euro.
You can exchange your money in loads of places in Amsterdam. All along the Damrak there are small cabins on corners and big buildings alike that offer you the chance to exchange your foreign currency for some local Euros. You can also check out the Post office, Your hotel/Hostel may also offer an exchange facility or be able to give advice on where is the best.
The Magna Plaza is a large shopping centre filled with all manner of shops and stores. You can pick up anything just about from the Magna Plaza, Whether it be a nice piece of Crystal, Some new clothing or even ornaments for your home. Theres loads to choose from.
