When it comes to parks in Amsterdam, Vondelpark is the most well known and probably the most visited park across the whole of the city, with more than 10 million visitors annually.
Created in 1865, Vondelpark covers a total of 120 acres which were originally bought by citizens who wanted to create a park where people could ride and stroll as well as enjoy some peaceful time.
It was originally named “Het Nieuwe Park” which is a direct translation of “The New Park” in English, and is located to the west of the Leidseplein and is surrounded by attractions such as other museums, the Amsterdam Casino and of course coffee shops.
During the summer months, Vondelpark hosts free open air concerts which can be attended 5 days a week from June – August. As well as the concerts, Vondelpark also has 6 different play areas which provides entertainment for smaller children, as well as skate rental.
