Ferry To Amsterdam

Amsterdam Ferry HolidayWe love going to Amsterdam and our preffered choice of transport is the Hull to Amsterdam ferry. The ferry leaves from Hull every night and travels down the River Humber towards the mainland. Most of the cabins on this Hull to Amsterdam ferry are economy, Upgraded rooms are also available.

(View pictures of the Ferry)

The ferry itself is huge in size with 11 decks for various uses. A layout of the decks and what they are used for is as follows:

Layout of the Ferry to Amsterdam
Deck 8: Deck 8 holds the reception area,restaurant,2 shops, the show lounge and a casino. Also on deck 8 are cabins numbered from 8101 to 8198.

Deck 9: Deck 9 contains many different entertainment areas and food courts. Among them you can find a brasserie, business lounge, wine bar,a shop, childrens play area, continental cafe,Irish bar a video arcade and two cinema screens. Also if your cabin number is between 9101 and 9198. Then you’ll be staying on this deck. (If your staying on this deck, at least your near all the entertainment!).

Deck 10: Deck 10 is a cabin deck only. The majority of the 546 cabins are on this deck. A lot of people and no entertainment to be found. Although if your staying on this deck, you are sandwiched in between the entertainment decks.

Deck 11: Deck 11 isn’t really much of a deck. It contains the sundeck lobby and bar and not much else that is accesible to the public. The 11th deck is used by crew as their sleeping quarters. Everyone on board needs somewhere to sleep after all.

Deck 12: Here is where you can find the sundeck lounge with a nice outdoor area. The sundeck lounge is a well kitted out bar at the very top of the ferry. The outdoor area has wooden flooring with tables and chairs for passengers to chill at whilst they cruise across the North sea.

Decks 3,5 and 7 are car decks and can hold a fair amount of vehicles.

Deck 7
Holds the freight drivers cabins. So if your a freight driver, this is where you’ll be staying. Freight drivers and the rest of the passengers are kept seperate.

Amsterdam Ferry HolidayThe decks may seem kinda large, but it only takes about 15 minutes to walk around an entire deck (possibly less time) and as there is something to do on just about every deck. It’s quite an enjoyable walk. Or at least it is the first time. (If you have problems sleeping, then you may find yourself wandering the decks at all times of night.)

There are two choices of cabins when travelling on the Pride of Hull/Rotterdam. Outside cabins have windows so you can see how bad the weather is as your crossing. Where as the inside cabins have no windows, but are cheaper.

The inside cabins are set out with bunk beds and a toilet/shower room. So although it may be small, its cheap, cheerful and gets the job done.

You are after all going to be asleep for most of the journey. If you book the cheaper cabins, then expect it to be hot during the night.

Somewhere along the line, they forgot to change the temp inside the cabins. So it doesn’t take long before you start to feel like a boil in the bag human. We are still trying to find a way around the heat problem whilst on board and trying to sleep. Be aware that leaving your cabin door open to let some fresh air in, Isn’t advised unless you intend on staying awake to watch your possessions.

As i haven’t stayed in the outer cabins. I really couldn’t comment on what they are like. I did however make a call to get a bit more of the available info on the upgraded outside cabin. The lady on the phone informs that the upgraded cabin has the following extras:

  • Double bed
  • TV
  • Mini Bar
  • Food in the cabin
  • Fridge
  • Trouser Press

If you start with a basic cabin, be aware that you can upgrade for a small fee should all the deluxe rooms not be taken. (Upgrade prices vary). This announcement is made once on aboard the ferry.

Food on the ferry is pretty much like ordering from anywhere that sells pre-packaged food. The only place that i think is worth eating at is the buffet that you have to pay extra for (£17 last time i went). It’s an all you can eat type of thing, so if you can eat alot. It’s most definitely worth it.

There’s also a casino on the ferry, although i can’t remember which deck it is on. so i’ll have to come back and edit this page once i do actually know where abouts it is. That should only take a few weeks ;) .

Quick rundown of all entertainment provided on the Ferry:
