A visit to Amsterdam can never be complete if you don’t go to the Museumplein. If you are lost, don’t hesitate to ask the locals where the Oud Zuid or Old South neighborhood is. You can also simply ask for the location of the Museum Quarter as well. This is one of the most popular places in Amsterdam. Therefore, almost all locals are aware of the location of the Museumplein. And if you think that the cost of taking a taxi may ruin your budget, then simply take any of the tram lines such as tram lines 2, 5, 16, 3, 12, or even tram line 24.
The façade of the Museum Square is different from what it is few years ago. This is because the government decided that changes must be made in order to meet the needs of the locals and tourists in a park. There are still ongoing works as of the moment particularly at one of the museums of the Museumplein which is the Stedelijk Museum.
A day tour is not enough to enjoy the sites that you can see in the Museum Square of Amsterdam. It is so huge that you need at least two days so that you can visit all corners and museums of the Museumplein. The three important museums of Amsterdam are situated here in Museumplein. This includes the Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh Museum, and the Rijksmuseum. But there is one latest addition in the list of stunning galleries which is the Diamond Museum.
The Stedelijk Museum is where you can see the collection of modern art created by the locals of Amsterdam. Be fascinated with the room that was painted by Sir Karel Appel. Do not forget to take pictures of the numerous paintings that were created by Kazimir Malevich.
On the other hand, the Rijksmuseum, also known as the State Museum, is not just about arts but showcases history and crafts at the same time. Most of the paintings that you can see here in the State Museum are from the Golden Age of the Dutch. But there are also a significant collection of the arts from the Asian countries as well.
Meanwhile, the Van Gogh Museum features the drawings and the paintings of the internationally acclaimed painter, Vincent Van Gogh. It is considered as one of the national museums here in Amsterdam. Unfortunately, there were some paintings of Van Gogh that were stolen last 2002. And up until now, the two paintings were not recovered yet.
Because of the renovations that were made, the Museum Square now has a skating rink where everybody may skate during the winter. And by the time summer falls at Amsterdam, this skating rink becomes a big wading pool for everyone. During this season, the skateboard park is also filled with professional and amateur skateboarders practising their stunts. You don’t have to bring your own food and carry it on your backpack since there are numerous kiosks that are selling finger foods as well as refreshments.
