Concertgebouw

The Concertgebouw is one of the best well known Concert halls in the entire world, sitting at the top of the Concert hall wall of fames with other halls such as Boston’s Symphony hall and the Musikverein in Vienna. Located close to the Museumplein, the Concertgebouw holds all kinds events throughout the year and caters for anyone that wants to enjoy the performances held within.

Work started on the Concertgebouw in 1883 and April the 11th 1888, the Concertgebouw opened it’s doors for visitors of the public.

If your interested in seeing a performance at the concertgebouw, then you should know that the doors open 40 minutes prior to the performance and if you happen to make it a bit late you won’t be let in until a suitable break in the performance arrives.

Once inside the Grote Zaal of the Concertgebouw, you’ll see that the ledges of the balconies have names inscribed into them. Names of composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,Frederic Chopin and Ludwig Van Beethoven are among some of the most famous.

Free Concerts are held at the Concertgebouw every Wednesday afternoon. Free concerts only run between September to June and start at 12:30 lunch time.

If your hotel isn’t close to the Concertgebouw, then consider travelling by either tram or taking a taxi. If you decide on tram, then an easy to follow route can be found below:

From Central Station: tram 2, 5, 16 en 24 and bus 170
There is a taxi stand directly outside the Concertgebouw, so getting back to your hotel or your next venue is easy.

Basic Rules of the Concertgebouw

  • No photography or videos of the performance.
  • Mobile Phones are to be switched off and put away
  • Smoking in designated areas only
  • Larger items such as Umbrellas,large bags/boxes and packages must be left at the cloakroom.

Open: 7 days a week; 10 a.m. – 8.15 p.m. payment by cash or Visa and Master cards.
Please note that from 7 p.m. the Box Office sells tickets only for the evening concerts.
