Prinsengracht

The Prinsengracht (Princes canal)  is the final canal in Amsterdam’s canal ring.  Starting at the top of the Jordaan and circling the city, there are many sights to be seen along here.

Almost all of the canal houses along the Prinsengracht were designed and built during the Dutch Golden Age, which lasted most of the 17th century.  A time when the Dutch were seen to be ahead of most of the world due to their trading links to Eastern Asia.

Now adays the Prinsengracht is filled with wandering couples or tourists as well as multiple cyclists. Being the fourth canal and the outer ring of the canal ring, the Prinsengracht is almost a highway to other parts of the city, and a beautiful highway it is too.

As there always is in Amsterdam, museums can be found here along with hotels, restaurants and just about anything else you might be interested in viewing without leaving the sides of the canal.
