The Keizersgracht (Or Emperors Canal) is the second canal in the inner circle of the Canal ring (Grachtengordel). Named after Maximillian I, Holy Emperor of Rome, the Keizersgracht is the widest of the canals making up the canal ring.
The Keizersgracht circles the city making up one of the outer layers of cobweb like layouts. Like all the canals in Amsterdam, houseboats are moored up and the bridges lit up on an evening like some kind of awesome display.
If you decided to follow the canal from one end to the other, you’d be taken past quite a few of Amsterdam’s attractions and monuments. What it didn’t take you to on it’s canal banks, can easily be found by just a short walk from the canal side.
Several museums can be found along the banks of the Keizersgracht, along with quite a few restaurants and places to relax and have a coffee or a snack. A nice place to sit and relax, especially in the warmer weather if you can find a seat on a terrace.
