Police Station

Spuistraat was our home for our January holiday in Amsterdam, here’s a few notes we made about the area.

Spuistraat runs between Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal and the Singel canal.  Starting up near central station and ending down almost as far the Koningsplein, Spuistraat is home to many wonderful and different forms of entertainment.

Walking from the Central Station end towards the bottom, you’ll find red windows and an adult cinema greeting you into this part of town. Several restaurants and eateries are dotted along down here, as well as coffee shops,bars and even one of the best Gay tourist information places Amsterdam could offer.  All this and more can be found on the popular and vibrant Spuistraat.

As you pass the windows and coffee shops on the beginning of the Spuistraat,  you’ll notice that much of the street is left empty or with small day time businesses. This is a great street to drop by during the day time to pick up some fresh bread or even a snack or a meal. During the evenings, the ladies of the red windows are enough to keep any man (or woman) entertained.

If your already on Spuistraat and heading for Dam Square, then take advantage of the fact that it runs all the way towards Dam Square.  All you have to do is turn off when your behind the Magna Plaza (On Raadhuisstraat) and your less than 5 minutes away.  Using Spuistraat as like a people highway helps immensely in not getting too lost and heading in the right direction all of the time.

The busy Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal holds many restaurants and other places to keep yourself entertained during the evening, and you can rest assured that should you have any problems. Then one of the police stations in Amsterdam is close by on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal.  Safety and a great location all rolled into one.
