Day 3 - The Final Day.
So the final day starts, it seems to have come around super quick. We’ve come to the final 18 hours of our holiday in Amsterdam. What to do, well first of all we had to check out of the hotel by 11am. So we packed up and shipped out. Luckily the Di Ann have a luggage room so we stored our cases and bags there until later on in the afternoon.
As it was the morning we needed food, and something to keep us going throughout the day. The first obvious choice was a slice of Pizza at around 10am. 10am is a great time to eat Amsterdam pizza. We also needed to pop into the Pharmacy to pick up a couple of things as we’d left what we needed at home on the dressing table (Not a bright move). As the Pharmacy was directly opposite pizza slices, we didn’t have to travel very far at all.
After finishing up in the Pharmacy, we headed out for some souvenir shopping. Ade and Jim picked up bits and bobs for people back at home. While me and Vix did the same. We hunted out the shops on Damrak as we knew they’d have the best choice of souvenirs, they do after all have thousands of tourists passing them everyday.
What happened next i didn’t expect. [Read more →]

So the second day of our holiday in Amsterdam started out early, with me and Vix waking up about 6am and heading out for some breakfast at around 8am. As the Di Ann hotel is on Raadhuisstraat, we had plenty of places to choose from.
The first port of call was to a small newsagents on Herengracht. The weather was crappy so we wanted to make sure we had something to soothe sore throats as we knew the wind and rain would soon start to cause a problem. After grabbing some throat lozenges and having a little chat with the nice woman behind the counter. Off we went in search of food.
So to Rene’s we went, i fancied a chocolate croissant and Vix had the same. Nice and warm breakfast on a cold miserable day. Perfect! Then back towards the Di Ann to find our friends.
After stealing them away from their breakfast, we decided on a plan of action for the day. One of our friends wanted to go and visit the Oude Kerk, and some museums that were in that part of town. [Read more →]

Ok so i got round to writing up my notes of what we did and where went on the first day of our 3 day holiday in Amsterdam.
We arrived in Amsterdam at around 10:30am and was dropped off by the coach at Central Station. We spent the first 15 minutes just enjoying a cigarette and stretching our legs. As the coach ride lasted for almost 2 hours, We were all in need of nicotine. After deciding which way we were to head, we set off and left the Central Station pick up point which is next to the Lovers cruises.
We crossed the road and headed off down Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, taking photos of the roads, hotels and just about anything else that would stay still enough to have a photo taken.
We wanted to be heading for Dam Square and the shops in that area, so we darted into Nieuwedijk to walk down the pedestrian area. Roads are just a bit too much on the first day there. It takes time to settle in.
Walked down Nieuwedijk towards Oudebrugsteeg and found the De Cuil 420 coffee shop. After entering De Cuil, we ordered some drinks and picked up a bit of Shiva to enjoy in the vapourizer. The atmosphere in this place is extremely chilled. No one’s in a rush and we got speaking to a cool German dude. Unlucky for him it was his last day in Amsterdam. [Read more →]

We took loads of photos whilst out and about on the canal tour that we took. It was our second day there and about 4 in the afternoon. The weather was great and the boat was warm enough.
We were kinda lucky with the captain of the boat we got, He had a great sense of humour and knew loads of facts about the routes we took. For €7, It was worth the ride.

Some of the most beautiful cakes on the whole of Dam Straat.
Well it’s been a week now since we got onto dry land back in the UK. We’ve spent the last week catching up on sleep and resizing photos so that they fit on to the page. With over 400 photos to sort through, i’m sure you can appreciate why it took so long.
The holiday was great, we had an amazing time and the weather held out alright for our 3 days in Amsterdam. I’ll be sure to add a day by day account of what we did and where went on which day. Although i may miss somethings out. Not by choice, but due to not being able to remember. (Hey it’s Amsterdam, It gets hard sometime to try and remember everything.)
We did however remember to take a whole load of photos of our trip to Amsterdam. So keep an eye out over the next few days as i upload a bunch of photos of the city.
Our stay in the Di Ann hotel was enjoyable, the only problem we had was with the windows not shutting properly. Although a quick call down to reception soon fixed that problem. Our friends room was far from their satisfaction. They complained of the beds being too soft, the room been small and the bathroom having a crazy design. I must admit, having a shower curtain that runs towards and over the toilet isn’t the best idea. Location wise it was as always, great.
I’ll have have the travelogues up over the next couple of days. Would rather get them done once and properly than have to go back and add info to them afterwards.
Heres a few more photos until i get the rest of them uploaded. Enjoy

We spotted these two buildings from on of the canal tours we were on. We have absolutely no idea what they are.

Amsterdam has many canals. This is one of the quietest canals we came across on our journey.

THere are thousands of bikes locked up at Central Station. This specially built bikepark was designed and built to help the problem of people having no where to lock their bikes.
